The Tyrolese region has been inhabited by humans for some 10,000 years. About 4,000 years ago people started to develop Tyrol as an agriculturally valuable region. The legendary glacier mummy dubbed “Oetzi” bears witness to this fact. Incidentally, it has been proven that humans started smelting metal here some 2000 BC. Copper mining led to a thriving trade later on. Today, tourism is one of the most important industrial sectors in Northern Tyrol. A contributing factor to this must certainly be the open-mindedness and heartiness of the local people. |
