| Carinthia is the southernmost federal state of Austria, bordering Slovenia and Italy. The region has countless mountain peaks as well as lakes and other lentic bodies of water. This is why the state is known as the “land of mountains and lakes”. Austria’s highest mountain, the Grossglockner, is 3,798 metres high and also located in Carinthia. The water in most of water bodies is potable, and more than 50 per cent of the total surface area is covered by forests. |
