Falkenstein is one of the jewels of the Bavarian Forest Nature Park. The town has been a climatic spa since 1961. In 1074 the name “Volkhenstain” was documented for the first time as a cathedral chapter bailiwick. That same year, Bishop Tuto of Regenstein started construction work on Falkenstein Castle on a granite rock. In the 900 years which followed ownership changed between clerical and secular dignitaries. In 1968 Falkenstein was granted possession of Falkenstein Castle and its previous forester’s lodge by the previous owners, the Thurn & Taxis dynasty. The deal was sealed by means of a deed of gift. Since then, political office-bearers and private persons are working hard at preserving the historic buildings. Today, Falkenstein Castle is not only the town’s landmark, but a bubbly cultural centre, the castle’s inner ward being the scene for the well-known Falkenstein Bailey Festival. You may also treat yourself to a visit to the Museum for Hunt and Game which is housed in the castle. Looking at the trophies and mounted specimens of the local fair game you learn a lot not only about the interrelation between hunting and nature, but also on the relationship between hunting and culture. The effort it takes to walk up the steep rock towards the castle is rewarded with a striking panorama view from the donjon. From here you can marvel at the castle, its park, the town and the valleys and mountain ranges such as the geological figurehead of the Bavarian Forest, the Arber. You get a pretty good idea about the diversity of the region’s nature and landscapes which you may as well discover on foot. Pretty villages, old hamlet and lonely, romantic places, beautifully embedded into a charming, hilly landscape dominated by fields, forests, meadows, meres, valleys and granite rock formations. Falkenstein, the market town with its historic town hall, the castle and its surrounding park has a lot to offer to visitors of all generations. Hikers, joggers and Nordic walkers will find a well-developed and vast network of hiking trails. Anglers can indulge their passion in various waters, whilst winter sports fans are welcome to use the cross-country track on a former railway line. There are also few cross-country circuits and a ski lift used in winter. Falkenstein is also connected to the sweeping network of bicycle tracks of the district of Cham.

With its terraced shape Falkenstein Holiday Park was built on the edge of the forest. There is ample parking available in front of the facility; the park itself is a vehicle-free zone. This is particularly pleasant for our little guests who can play wherever they like. From the holiday park you have a lovely view of Falkenstein Castle. Within a few minutes you reach the town which offers not only a multitude of gastronomic and shopping facilities, but also a heated swimming pool with aqua slides (free entrance for our guests). In winter the bouquet of offers is complemented by means of a ski lift, well-prepared cross-country runs and hiking trails. Falkenstein also has a Kneipp facility where you can treat body and soul. In the holiday park itself there is a sauna, infrared cabin, solarium and a relaxation with fireplace (all chargeable). For our little guests there is a forest playground and table tennis table. All houses and flats are furnished child-friendly. Falkenstein Holiday Park was awarded the second-highest accolade by Kinderland Bayern, an initiative aiming at furthering child-friendliness within public facilities. At our reception which also has a kiosk we also offer little snacks such as bread rolls, and hire our braziers.

With a size of about 44 m², this holiday house offers space for up to six persons. In the living rooms there is a television set (sky TV), kitchenette (fridge) and a dining table. The bedroom is furnished with a double bed and a sleeping gallery for two children. The bathroom is fitted with a shower and WC. Smoking is permitted in this house.
